Network C for DOS
A Set of Tools for Developing DOS Client Applications
Network C for DOS is a set of tools that allows you to develop
DOS client applications for the NetWare environment. This product
runs on the entire 80x86 processor family and uses the DOS
operating system.
Comprehensive Set of Tools
Network C for DOS contains a powerful 16-bit ANSI C optimizing
compiler, an enhanced general-purpose text editor, a debugger,
linker, profiler, an Embedded SQL preprocessor, and other
utilities. Plus, you get the C library of NetWare Application
Programming Interfaces (APIs) for accessing NetWare services, and
the NetWare Btrieve record manager library for accessing NetWare
Btrieve.
Novell/WATCOM C 8.0 Network Compiler--The core component of this
toolkit is the 100% ANSI C-compliant WATCOM v8.0 optimizing
compiler. It generates 16-bit object code which outperforms many
other C compilers for PC-DOS, and its efficient memory management
system allows compilation and optimization of large (>640K)
programs. In addition, the compiler's high-performance loop
optimization increases your application's performance by
significantly improving code size and execution time. Plus, the
Novell/WATCOM compiler supports the 80x87 math coprocessor which
speeds up numeric data processing.
Debugger--Network C for DOS contains a powerful debugger with
flexible windows and mouse support. It improves productivity by
showing program source code, program data, machine instructions,
registers, stack contents, and program input/output.
Linker--The high-performance Microsoft-compatible linker
features an interactive or a command-file driven operation, and a
very flexible overlay capability.
Express C--Express C is an integrated editor, compiler, debugger,
linker, and runtime system. It ensures code reliability by
quickly uncovering many common and difficult bugs in "correct"
code that other compilers miss.
Execution Profiler--The execution profiler is a performance
analysis tool used to quickly and easily pinpoint high- use
regions of code. It samples execution activities and produces a
graphical display of your application at the module, routine,
source code, and assembly code levels. Using this tool, you can
significantly improve your application's performance.
C Graphics Library--The C graphics library allows you to
integrate graphics into your applications. It supports the MDPA,
CGA, EGA, MCGA, VGA, and Hercules graphics cards. This library is
compatible with the Microsoft graphics library, plus it supports
unique features such as graphics text with variable character
size.
C Library--The C library, which supports the Novell/WATCOM C
compiler, consists of NetWare APIs that give you direct access to
powerful NetWare services. Refer to the list below for the
different NetWare API services available.
NetWare Btrieve Library--The NetWare Btrieve library allows your
DOS client applications to access NetWare Btrieve, Novell's
key-indexed record management system. This library supports the
Novell/WATCOM C compiler.
Embedded SQL--This toolkit includes an Embedded SQL preprocessor,
making it possible to easily incorporate NetWare SQL calls
directly into your C source code.
Application Design Tutorial--This valuable document contains a
network application design theory and commentary. It also
provides you with source code examples for NetWare Btrieve and
NetWare API calls. You may use these examples within your
programs. The Application Design Tutorial concentrates on basic
network application development.
A Toolkit You Can Rely On
Network C for DOS is a complete set of powerful development tools
that gives you the speed, compatibility, reliability, and
ease-of-use required for successfully writing DOS client
applications. With the Novell/WATCOM compiler, you can quickly
and easily compile, debug, and link your applications. And, by
using the profiler, you can analyze your application and improve
its performance. The two sets of libraries provide direct access
to a wide range of NetWare services and operations, and the
extensive documentation guides you through the application
development process.
Minimum Development Environment
* IBM PCs, PS/2, or compatibles with a hard disk drive
* 286 processor
* 512KB memory recommended
* DOS v3.1 or later
